The Best Swimsuits for Different Body Types

Summer is in full swing and many of us are keeping cool by spending vacations and long weekends at the beach. And while we’re always excited by the chance to tan and dip our toes in the water, the thought of finding the perfect swimsuit can bring that excitement to a screeching halt. Trying to find the best bathing suit that fits properly and makes you feel confident can be a difficult and draining task. To help take some of the stress out of it all, we’ve put together a list of what swimsuits work best for four different body types.

Apple– this body shape means that your waist is your largest measurement.

Look for one-piece bathing suits that have ruching (gathers) on the sides and a halter or deep-v neckline. The ruching helps to slim and elongate your torso while adding a feminine touch and the deep-v neckline draws the eye up and highlights your neck and chest. When looking for swimsuit colors or patterns stick to solids or very subtle patterns, like small polka dots, and avoid bold patterns and horizontal stripes.

Pear– this body shape means that you’re smaller at the bust and your hips are your largest measurement.

Look for a two-piece bikini that has a bandeau top and an asymmetrical skirted bottom or a fold-over (banded) bottom. The asymmetrical look helps to elongate the legs and gives some coverage for your hips while a fold-over bottom accentuates your waist. When looking for swimsuits, don’t be afraid to mix and match; pair a bold patterned top with a solid colored bottom to make the look even more figure flattering.

Athletic– this body shape means that you’re long and lean with a boyish figure.

Look for a two-piece swimsuit that has a vintage inspired look with colorblocking. The colorblocking will help to create an illusion of feminine curves while a vintage pin-up inspired top flatters your chest. Pick bottoms that have a high cut to them to accentuate your long legs. Stick to solid colorblocking or colorblocking with a small print and dark solid when looking for the perfect swimsuit.

Hourglass– this body shape means that your waist is your smallest measurement and that your bust and hips are similar in size.

Look for a high-waisted bikini that flatters and flatus your amazing curves. The high-waisted bottom will draw the eye to your small waist while still allowing for stomach coverage. Look for a top that has underwire or wide straps to help support and accentuate your bust. Having an hourglass shape means that you can pull off bold prints and colors easily so don’t be afraid to try a unique or trendy print. Stay away from straight horizontal stripes as they can make you look wider and instead pick vertical stripes to help elongate your torso.
