Real Wedding Wednesday: Meg and Alex

This week’s real Virginia weddings tale started on the Bumble dating app. For their first date, Alex drove from Roanoke to meet Meg, through the snow, to Lynchburg. “We had BBQ at Small Batch and then stayed up till 2 am talking.”

Meg and Alex had many special touches for their big day. “My mother made my dress. We had all our wedding signs in both English and Spanish. We had Pilones (Honduran style popsicles) instead of cake – all the decor was put together by myself, my friends, and family. The guests threw dried lavender instead of rice, and we had guests take Instax mini pictures for the guest book.”

The Scoop

Bride: Meghan, 32, Teacher, Eagle Hill School

Groom: Alex, 30, Hospitalist, Lawerence General Hospital

Wedding date: 06/12/2021

Number of guests: 150

For Meg’s attire, she wore the dress her mother made for her from the beautiful floral fabric. Additionally, she “wore rose-gold glitter Keds, part of my mom’s veil was woven into my flower crown, I wore an asymmetrical floral ear wrap instead of regular earrings. I have a blue engagement ring that has leaves on it that match my wedding band.” The bridesmaids wore white tops from Amazon and lavender skirts from Hidden Room on Etsy. Meg decided, “The color palette was all the colors because why be boring and only pick a few.”

When it came to choosing the venue, “I had seen Berry Hill on Pinterest years ago and had always thought it would be amazing to get married there. Then, when we were looking at venues and trying to plan our Virginia Wedding from Massachusetts, Berry Hill was the best option. Besides the gorgeous venue and amazing staff that work there, the fact that they provide all the rentals, linens, food, bar, and your guests can room there, too. It was a no-brainer.”

Meg leaves us with this advice: “Don’t buy extras of invitations or save the dates if you are having them premade for you. You’ll end up with all these leftovers and nothing to do with them. A waste of money. Don’t sweat the small stuff and make sure to consider your partner and their family in all the aspects; it’s not the bride’s wedding, it’s the couple’s wedding.”
