A Spectacular Lakeside Wedding

by Michelle Essex

Picture yourself as the bride in a lovely and spacious penthouse suite with an upper level loft.  From a large picture window in the loft you behold a stunning sun-lit lake as far as the eye can see.  That is what you have in the wonderful Mariner’s Landing Penthouse.  As a bride pampers and dresses herself in the beautiful accommodations overlooking Smith Mountain Lake, she can look out and see her outdoor wedding coming together on the well-groomed lawn surrounded by the lake.

The carefree bride can relax and enjoy the magic of the moment because a talented team of people are working hard to fulfill her creative plans. Each one is intent on making her special day exactly how she hoped it would be.  Friends and family relax and visit as they anticipate the wedding and celebration.  The spectacular lake venue with beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain vistas is a wonderful place to make the most special of wedding memories.

Mariner’s Landing is an ideal location for a “destination wedding” for out-of-town guests. It has the added benefit of being less than an hour away from Roanoke and Lynchburg for local guests.  Driving into Mariner’s Landing is a country sightseeing adventure in the foothills of the beautiful mountain range.

Arguably some of Virginia’s most endearing land, guests are treated to amazing scenes by way of several different routes into Smith Mountain Lake, including the famous Blue Ridge Parkway.  There are scenic mountain vistas; rolling hills; enchanting country views of farms and farmland; cows, horses and goats; wonderful old barns; and rustic wooden fences.  Some brides choose one of the picturesque historical churches close to Mariner’s Landing for their nuptials and celebrate afterward at beautiful Smith Mountain Lake.

Most brides prefer to host the whole wedding celebration at captivating Mariner’s Landing.  The amenities and scenery provided at Mariner’s Landing Lake are delightful.  The lovely gazebo offers the perfect altar for a bride and groom to exchange their vows.  For the couple who love all things nautical, they may choose the marina as the backdrop for their ceremony.  Photo opportunities for the bride and groom include backdrops of the sandy lake shoreline, the marina, and the stunning mountain vistas.

The large outdoor lawn offers a bride the luxury of enough space for a garden ceremony and a tented reception.  An outdoor pavilion is located a short distance from the area and it a great alternative for brides to use in case of inclement weather.  Indoor options include a ballroom and a large conference room.  Mariner’s Landing can accommodate up to 250 indoor wedding guests.  Patios allow guests to enjoy “starters” outside and move inside for the reception.  Service-oriented staff members will take care of any last minute arrangements to relocate an outdoor wedding into one of the indoor rooms.

The worry-free aspect of Mariner’s Landing is true for guests as well.  Restaurants and entertainment are available to guests staying in one of the beautiful condominiums.  As a destination wedding venue, the resort is a perfect vacation spot for guests to enjoy boating, water sports, swimming, hiking, or just relaxing. The buildings are connected so that family and friends run into one another as they move from one meal and activity to another.

A bride may choose to organize outings and get-togethers.  Some brides host campfires on the beach, family golf games, or special family dinners.  The friendly resort setting offers country club and hotel amenities: 18 hole golf course, 3 swimming pools, hot tubs, play grounds, walking trails, volleyball, basketball, tennis, water sports, and fully equipped condominiums with all the conveniences of home.

Brides love the fact that their families and guests can reconnect as they get together.  Some people choose to arrive several days early so that they can spend time together and celebrate.  What an excellent opportunity to create lifelong memories as everyone eats, relaxes, and plays together!

Mary Lou McDonald, the owner of Mariner’s Landing Hospitality, is passionate about customer service and loves to make a bride’s dream come true.  She relishes the opportunity to serve brides and their parents on such a special occasion.  In order for brides to understand all that Mariner’s Landing offers, Ms. McDonald encourages an advance visit to the resort to try it out for a nominal fee.  Seeing the gorgeous lakeside mountain vistas and experiencing the resort ambiance gives a bride a more complete picture to make her wedding venue decision.

Realizing that no two brides are alike, Ms. McDonald knows that no two weddings will be alike.  “Some brides want fireworks—we can do that…whatever you we can make it happen.”  At Mariner’s Landing a bride can use her own wedding planner, caterer, photographer, baker… but she can also delegate these roles to the Mariner’s Landing staff and relax.  Raymond Sellers is the point person for the bride and spearheads coordinating and orchestrating all of her plans.

Creativity is encouraged because in this dreamy spot they want all the bride’s dreams to come true.  Brides may organize boat transportation for their guests to a restaurant on the lake as a unique touch.  Or a bride may imagine bidding farewell to her guests as she and her groom leave by way of boat.  Mariner’s Landing is meant to be a place where just such imaginations come true.  Whether her taste is casual with a bonfire barbeque and cornhole, or formal with dazzling table centerpieces and fine cuisine, the staff wants to make it happen for the bride.

After the festivities, the plush penthouse overlooking the marina is the perfect place for the newly married couple to spend the first night of their honeymoon.  Waking up to the spectacular lake view displayed through the large picture window of the master bedroom is a wonderful way for a bride and groom to start out together.  The magical moments of the night before can linger in their minds as they relax and begin their married life in the perfectly suited accommodations.

Brides can book Mariner’s Landing a year in advance, but the accommodating staff will work with brides who have shorter time frames.  For more information see www.MarinersLanding.com
