It may only be August, but winter is coming in Virginia! Spoilers may occur if you have not seen at least up to the beginning of the fourth season!
First, I have to lay out a few rules for a GoT wedding: 1. No killing for fun; we are not Dothraki. 2. No killing all of your guests, even if you like the color red. 3. No poisoning the groom’s drink (unless he is actually Joffrey, in which case I may or may not be all for that…).
Game of Thrones lends itself to a lot of theme integration, which makes it a perfect choice for a style inspiration. As discussed last week, we are starting with the ceremony and reception and going in reverse order from there! For a GoT wedding, I like the idea of having grey as a base color with a lot of that light, rustic blue that Khaleesi is known for, along with a deep burgundy!
One idea I love is to have some fun with your tables by labeling them after the Houses on the show, so you can have tables labeled “House Stark” and “House Baratheon.” Just to have them all in one place for you, the other houses mentioned on the show are Greyjoy, Lannister, Tyrell, Martell, Arryn and Targaryen. Your escort cards and be on a map of the Westeros and available for everyone to take!
I love this idea of putting all of your guests into houses! Although I would maybe put a disclaimer saying you don’t necessarily think someone is awful like most of the Lannisters… This is from Oh So Beautiful Paper. They had some samples of invitations and other paper aspects of weddings if you’d like to check them out!
Game of Thrones characters drink out of a lot of goblets (which are adorable!) so I love the idea of bringing that feel to your own tables. I love this goblets featured in a Khaleesi-themed wedding on Glamour and Grace blog.
I love that old feel these bring, since the show is based in a time many many years ago. Make sure to have a lot of wine available for your guests to put in these!
The cake is also a very important part of a wedding! I LOVE this GoT-inspired cake found on Green Wedding Shoes.
I love all of the little details in this cake. It has the throne itself, the map, the gears from the intro and that beautiful blue we’re trying to incorporate! I’d love to have it on a prominent table with some grey candles burning around it!
Last, but certainly not least, the venue is an extremely important part to any wedding. I did some searching around, and I think a great place to have a Game of Thrones wedding in Virginia is at Morais Vineyards and Winery located in Bealeton, Va.
What I love about this venue is that its rooms seem so extravagant and with a lot of lighting options! That bottom picture reminds me a lot of the room where Sansa and Tyrion married with the circular altar. The windows add a lot of natural light, which would be much more likely in a Game of Thrones universe than electricity. I also love the chandeliers!
Next week, come back for the Game of Thrones bridal party! If you have any suggestions, comment below and let us know! We hope you love these ideas for your own beautiful wedding!
Keep checking our blogs for more great ideas, and we’ll be back in the Westeros next Friday!
