Let’s picture a scenario: you find the absolutely perfect wedding dress. You get fitted and they start making your gown just for you. Suddenly, you find yourself craving donuts and fried food, but you’re afraid of not fitting into that beautiful white gown. We asked Jon Vought, an Ace-certified personal trainer at Planet FItness in Harrisonburg, what he recommends for staying in shape.



“If you’re focused on maintaining, it’s more about changing your body composition,” says Jon. “When it comes down to it, it’s about decreasing body fat and increasing muscle mass.” This means you need to keep your body moving but tone it at the same time.

“A lot of people want to do cardio, but strength training is just as important, if not more important,” says Jon. Now, this doesn’t mean you need to become a bodybuilder and bench press as much as possible. It just means you need to tone the muscles in your body to keep up with the fat burning.

“Start with a full body workout, it’s going to be a lot easier on the body,” says Jon. “Start on the machines because there’s fixed movements and less room for error.”

Jon also recommends interval training, which means getting your heart rate up and then back down. This will help with the changing of your body composition!
