Writing Prompts for Your Wedding Vows

Writing your own vows for your wedding is momentous.  You are about to speak the first words witnessed by your family and friends that will sanctify publicly your commitment to the person who is to become officially the most important person in your life.

Getting started can be the hardest part, but here is a sampling of viable wedding prompts to get you started.

As a Declaration

I take you as you are, …

I love you unconditionally and without hesitation…

Today, I promise you this…

As I stand here before our family and our friends…

As a Question

Do you promise to be a loving friend and partner…?

How did I know you were the only one for me?

Will this be forever?

What is love to us?

As I read different couples’ vows and the samples given by writers, the ones that stood out to me were the ones that were not a typical monologue (I speak, then you speak), but were the ones that were an exchange and resembled a theatrical dialogue between couples who were clearly in love and clearly devoted to one another.  They didn’t just love the person now, but imagined how they would continue to love as they aged.  However, as beautiful and emotional a dialogue seems, it also seems incredibly difficult to pull off for the majority of us, and might be best left to professional actors.

But if you have wished you could see and hear other people’s REAL wedding vows, well, you can.  Just search “best wedding vows” and look under videos.

Here is one video of millions which I found that was four years in the making and captured by Life Stage Films.   Yes, you may need a tissue.
