Planning a Virginia Wedding

If you have just recently gotten engaged ( Christmas, New Years and Valentine’s Day proposals are always significant) you may be wondering – now what?

There is going to be quite a bit of planning to do but where do you find trusted resources for your wedding -including the most important- selecting a wedding venue, the catering, the cake, the photography and so much more!

One of the first things a bride should do- is attend a bridal show. The Greater Virginia Bridal Show – produced by Virginia Bride Magazine – hosts local bridal shows through out Virginia including Richmond, Fredericksburg, Roanoke, Harrisonburg, Blacksburg,  Culpeper. Each one of these shows will have a variety of local- experienced wedding professionals displaying their work and products.

What does one do at a bridal show and what should you expect?

The purpose of a bridal show is for engaged couples, their friends (  key bridal party members) and family to gather information  in order to make informed decisions on who they should trust with providing wedding services for the big day.  Local wedding service providers such as photographers, wedding planners, catering , wedding locations and reception sites, cake bakers, florists and many more will be on hand for you to meet in person. This is the main reason for a bride to be – to attend a bridal show. You can surf the net, but in the end- you will want to meet a perspective vendor in person. You will also want to see a sample of their work. This is why a bridal show is so important. You can interview vendors and pick up information from each to compare prices, work, styles, etc.  Many will offer special discount offers associated with the bridal show.  Bridal shows are a fun time to have friends with you -all in one place – in one day to see a variety of vendors. There is usually a fashion show showcasing a variety of wedding gowns, bride’s maid dresses and formal wear. Most shows offer door prizes provided by the participating vendors. Admission prices vary but the norm is $7-15 per person. This is quite a minimal investment when you can see vendors all in one place, without driving all around town to different vendors on different times and days.  Bridal Shows are not complicated- don’t expect a reality TV show experience. The bridal show is meant for you to get information and see vendor displays.  Vendors will want to get your contact information as well so they may follow up with you after the show. These are professional business owners and anyone who is in business will always want to follow up with a perspective client. Maybe  you will even book your vendor services while at the show. Be prepared to sign contracts and pay deposits to hold your day. Imagine leaving the show with all of your wedding services taken care of – in one afternoon.

Happy shopping!
