Wedding Trends 2010 by Angela Courser

Odds are, since you’re reading a bridal magazine, you will be getting married this year. So if 2010 is your year to marry, congratulations from all of us at Virginia Bride Magazine. 2010’s trends cover a wide spectrum. No matter what fashion dictates, your wedding should always be personalized. Learning to incorporate trends within your individual style should be discussed with your consultant and/or event designer. With good planning your personality and the latest fashions can be seamlessly merged.

HOME AND BACKYARD WEDDINGS ARE ON THE RISE.
Brides are opting for less formal, more intimate environments. Home and garden weddings are always romantic. Flowers that enhance a spring setting may include early bulb blossoms such as hyacinths, jonquils and tulips, and classic favorites like hydrangea and peonies. Check with your local floral designer for availability in your area.

FEATHERS AND METALLICS ARE HOT FOR 2010.
Feathers and metallics create drama for the contemporary urban bride. Bridal gowns are gracing the runway with metallic beading accents and wisps of feathers.
Brides wearing the latest metallic accented dresses will have their bridal party attired in matching gowns. Hand-tied bouquets of jewel-toned flowers with beaded stem wraps make a harmonious accessory.

PURPLE, LAVENDERS AND YELLOWS WILL DOMINATE THE COLOR PALETTE.
Purples and yellows have come back into fashion because of—politics. The popularity of First Lady Michelle Obama has driven the resurgence of purple in fashion. Said to be one of her favorite colors it has created a fashion trend. A great fresh flower choice for this regal color is the purple anemone, with its velvety black center.

EXPECT TO SEE MORE WEEKDAY, FRIDAY AND SUNDAY WEDDINGS IN THE COMING YEAR.
This is a residual effect of our recuperating economy. Saturday has always been the favorite day for weddings. Hoping to increase business many venues are offering special packages and discounts for brides who can marry during the week or on Sunday. Check around, you may be delighted to learn that a venue you thought was out of reach just might fit your budget if you don’t have to marry on a Saturday.

GREEN WEDDINGS WILL BE MORE POPULAR THAN EVER.
Brides are becoming much more conscious of our environment and are educating themselves on the use of earth friendly products. Here’s a tip for eco-minded brides—ask where the flowers are grown. If they’re locally grown fuel usage is minimized. You may save money too—there may be no fuel use charges or taxes to drive the price up.
Let’s hope that going green is not a passing trend and becomes a way of life for us all.
