Co-owners Lynn Simonoff and Gail Grandis have catered every kind of wedding under the sun—and sometimes the rain—specializing in creating one-of-a-kind events. “Sometimes weddings can feel sort of cookie cutter,” says Lynn. “No bride wants that. Every bride wants to feel special, and you don’t have to spend a fortune to have a wedding that’s totally your own.”

That starts with the food, including any dietary restrictions. Pick-Ups Plus has experience with kosher catering, as well as vegetarian and vegan meals, and creating menus tailored to the bride and groom. “One of my favorites was a wedding at The Barksdale Theater with an Asian theme, including a sushi bar and a rickshaw!” says Lynn.

“A good party doesn’t begin and end with food and beverages,” says Gail. “After you’ve been in business for so long it’s natural that you learn how to help couples plan the other elements of their wedding.” This includes free party planning services such as menu coordination, theme planning, and arranging decorations, balloons, flowers, photography, linens, tableware, entertainment, music, favors, agendas, and staff. “Don’t forget hand-holding,” says Gail. “That’s a big one!”

Pick-Ups Plus Catering has been serving the Richmond community delicious food for 30 years. What started as a pick-up pastry business out of a young mother’s kitchen has grown into a successful catering company that has catered functions for officials and entertainers like the governor of Virginia, President Obama’s campaign and Bruce Hornsby. They are also on the preferred vendors list for many Richmond area venues.
